A telephone link connects page content to a device capability and a staffed business process. The handoff must cover more than making digits blue.
Separate display from destination
Provide the approved human-readable number, international dialing value, service hours, region, and owner. Extensions and pauses need an explicit compatibility decision. Never infer a country code from the viewer's location.
Keep the promise honest
Label the purpose when several numbers appear. If the line is not always staffed, show accurate hours or an alternate contact route. Any call tracking or number substitution needs privacy, accessibility, and content-owner approval.
Test beyond a phone mockup
Inspect the rendered `tel` destination, accessible name, focus style, wrapping, and behavior on desktop devices without calling software. Confirm that copied text remains useful and that analytics do not prevent the native action.
