Decide What Your Website Should Print Before Launch

Print styles are easy to forget until a customer needs a receipt, checklist, itinerary, or reference page. Browser defaults often waste paper on navigation while cutting the useful content across awkward page breaks.

Identify the pages people keep

Do not make the entire site printable by reflex. List the routes with a genuine print or PDF use case and the content each copy must retain. An invoice may need identity and totals. A how-to guide may need headings, steps, source links, and its public URL.

Remove clutter without removing meaning

Hide menus, cookie banners, chat launchers, and controls that cannot work on paper. Keep the page title, organization, publication or transaction date, and enough context to identify the copy later. Expand essential collapsed content before printing.

Set practical layout rules

Choose readable type, restrained ink coverage, sensible margins, and page breaks that keep headings with their first paragraph. Wide tables need a specific decision rather than accidental clipping. If link destinations matter, print them in a readable form or provide a stable source URL.

Review privacy before convenience

Account pages can expose addresses, identifiers, or internal notes in print previews. Confirm which fields belong on the copy. Do not reveal content merely because the print stylesheet hides the screen layout.

Test the output, not only the preview

Check representative pages in portrait and landscape, on common paper sizes, and through save-to-PDF. Review the first page, middle breaks, final page, images, links, headers, and blank-page behavior. Record the browser and build used for acceptance.
