Treat a Website QR Code as a Maintained Link

A QR code may outlive the campaign page, packaging, or sign that carries it. Before design starts, assign an owner to the destination and decide how long the printed object must keep working.

Choose a stable destination

Use an HTTPS route on a domain the client controls. If tracking or redirection is required, document the service, privacy implications, fallback, and renewal owner. Do not bake a temporary preview URL into material that cannot be recalled.

Explain the destination in words

Put a short human-readable URL and a plain description beside the code. A person should know whether scanning opens a menu, payment page, form, download, or account sign-in. The text also gives people another route when scanning fails.

Protect the symbol in layout

Agree on minimum printed size, clear space, contrast, background, and production method. Do not stretch, crop, decorate, or place the code over a busy image. Test the final physical proof, not only the source artwork.

Check realistic conditions

Scan from representative distances and angles on several devices. Try dim light, glare, a slightly damaged copy, and the slowest expected connection. Confirm the destination's title, canonical address, mobile layout, and error behavior.

Keep a maintenance record

Store the encoded value, campaign, placement, print date, intended lifetime, destination owner, and last verification. Analytics owners should approve any campaign parameters. The outsourced design team supplies the asset and proof; it should not silently choose a tracking service.
