Captions are not a switch added after a video is embedded. They are timed content that needs an approved source, review, publication, correction, and localization workflow.

Inventory every video version

Record the page, media identifier, language, duration, transcript source, caption file, audio-description decision, poster image, player, and owner. Match captions to the exact edit so timing does not drift after the media changes.

Set review criteria

Check spoken words, speaker changes, meaningful sounds, punctuation, timing, reading speed, and terminology. Automated transcription can accelerate a draft, but a person familiar with the content should review the delivered experience.

Include the player experience

  • Captions can be enabled and identified by language.
  • Controls work by keyboard and remain visible at zoom.
  • Autoplay and sound follow the approved policy.
  • A transcript is easy to find when provided.
  • Failure or blocked playback has an alternative route.
  • Keep files editable

Deliver the caption source, final timed file, transcript, glossary, review notes, and media version in a client-owned location. Name who updates them when the video changes.
